IRAN, Qajars. Nasir al-Din Shah, AH 1264-1313 / AD 1848-1896. Order of the Lion and the Sun (Nishân-e-Schir-o-Khorschid) (Silver and Enamel, 84 mm, 99.60 g), set of two pieces: Breast Star 1st Class and Neck Badge 3rd Class, Civil Division. Probably Iranian manufacturing, after 1872. Eight-pointed Breast Star and six-pointed Neck Badge with silver brillanté, repercé and red enameled rays; central enameled medaillons with resting lion in front of rising sun (emblem of Imperial Iran). An exceedingly rare and nicely toned set of the highest quality. Tiny enamel chips on the rays, otherwise, good extremely fine.
